Are you lonesome tonight?

The party season is on and how. Everyone and anyone is either going out or getting ready to go out. There is festivity and celebrations all around. But then, there are some who are suffering from festive blues — these are the people who are alone and also lonely

While some of these people could have just broken up with their partners, some might be new to the city. Then there are some others, who are staying away from their family, and some who are just plain alone.
When a person does not have anyone to spend the festive season with, there is a lot of loneliness and sadness that may surround him/her. Also this is the time when work is less and other friends or family members are busy with their own plans. This makes the person feel lonelier because there is nothing much to distract him/her.

Psychologists says people suffering from festive blues go through emotional disturbances,
anxiety and depression. "People who do not have company — in the form of friends, family or a special someone — are the ones who are badly hit during the festive season. The past one month is likely to have been terrible for these people."

So the question now is, what should people do in order to deal with this situation? staying at home and feeling low is not expected to help much. You have to find a way to make yourself 'happy'.Incidentally, there are also some who are finding themselves 'day-partners' to get rid of their loneliness. There are people who are going out with another single friend just to combat their festive blues. You might not have your favourite people around, but you can still have fun with yourself. The idea is to remember that you are not alone. Being happy is a state of mind and a conscious decision. It's your decision if you want to be happy. Either enjoy yourself or feel sad about the situation.

Alone? But you can still have fun...

Choose to have a good time. It really is in your hands and you should do it.

Reach out to people. Connect with your relatives.

Take your family out to dinner or cook and invite them over.

Don't stay home and mull over the situation. Don't brood. Go out.

Catch up with other single friends. Plan a get-together with them.

Make plans to do all the things which you wanted to but never got the time.

De-clutter. Re-organize/ redecorate your home. It will help you feel better.

Watch a funny movie.

Go for a date with yourself.

Read. Book stores are a great place to go and spend time.

Get a makeover, it might make you feel special.

Buy gifts for yourself. Don't worry about expenses for one day.

Spend a day at the spa and pamper yourself.

Take that holiday which you always wanted to.

Take dancing lessons or learn a new sport.

Cook a special meal for yourself complete with candles and flowers.

Be a host and organize a party for your friends.

Do charity. Visit an orphanage or an old-age home.
